The Sports Club is excited to begin our fifth year of BASS/USA swimming. Our experienced coaching staff will provide age-specific, individualized training for all athletes with an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.
Mission
To inspire and empower swimmers to achieve excellence in sport and life through age-specific and individualized technique based training for all athletes. Through coaching geared towards challenging and developing each athlete to the best of their abilities, our competitive program - overseen by Boar's Head USA Certified Coaches Lauren Gander, Erin Lawson, Lindsey Paulson, Kylie van Ek, and Mike DiFazio- exemplifies the standards and values of the sport of swimming.
**Please note - Participants in all groups, including Mini Boarfish must be able to swim a complete 25 yard freestyle unassisted. Children should be comfortable floating and kicking on their back as well as their front. This program is not intended to replace swim lessons. If you are new to USA Swimming or unsure of your swimmer's current skill level, please reach out to one of our coaches. We want to find the best fit for your child(ren) and will happily arrange an individual evaluation.

Registration
In order to ensure a safe practice environment for all athletes, every participant must register via the link below. Once registered, please await a confirmation email. Our coaches will reach out to arrange specific practice times that work best for your family. Please read program descriptions thoroughly to assure that your child is signed up for the correct program level. If you have questions, please reach out to one of the coaches listed above.

Billing
Monthly fees are processed on the 1st of each month to the swimmer's account. All swimmers are required to keep their account in good standing. Delinquent accounts more than 30 days past due may result in suspension.
Nonmembers must have a payment method on file prior to beginning practice. Payment information may be shared by calling the Sports Club at (434) 972-2235.
Prorated Months
December will be prorated for MiniBoarfish and Boarfish I.
March and May will also be prorated for all practice groups.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation must be submitted via email to [email protected]. To withdraw from the program completely, notification must be received by Monday, August 18 to receive a full refund.
We understand illnesses and injuries happen. A note from a physician is required to receive a 50% refund on any months a swimmer will not be participating. Physician's notes should cover the entirety of the months missed. Physician's notes and notice of missed time due to injury or illness must be submitted to [email protected].
For those swimmers who are choosing not to participate in the Winter (December-March), notification of cancellation must be received by Monday, November 10. If notification has not been received by this date, your account will continue to be charged on the 1st of each month.
For those swimmers who choose not to participate in the Spring (April and May), notification of cancellation must be received by Monday, March 9. If notification has not been received by this date, your account will continue to be charged on the 1st of each month.
Sibling Discount
A 10% sibling discount will be applied for each additional swimmer within the same family.
Referral Discount
A $100 credit will be applied to your family's account for every new swimmer who lists your swimmer's name as a referral on their registration form. Please reach out to [email protected] with questions.
Bass Registration Fee, USA Swimming Fees, & Meet Information
The BASS registration fee is a one time fee of $125 for the entire 2025-2026 short course and long course season. All BASS swimmers are required to be registered with USA Swimming to compete and practice with the team. The annual USA swimming fee will be charged in October for returning BASS swimmers, we are expecting this to be approximately $88. All new swimmers will be sent information early in the season regarding USA swimming registration.
All programs are certified via USA Swimming. The USA season runs from Sept. 2025 - Aug. 2026. Our competitive meet schedule will be announced shortly. District and State Championship meet (Age Group Champs, Senior Champs, etc) dates and locations as well as some National level meets can be found at www.virginiaswimming.org.
Mini Boarfish (K-2nd Grade Two practices per week)
Our entry level team group; introducing young athletes to the world of competitive swimming. Prior to registering for this group, swimmers must be able to swim a complete 25 yd freestyle unassisted. Children should be comfortable floating and kicking on their back as well as their front. This program is not intended to replace swim lessons. Emphasis is placed on learning the basic fundamentals of competitive swimming and foundations of all four strokes. Swimmers will become familiar with what a typical swim team practice looks like, gain an understanding of general pool safety, learn how to be a good teammate, and most importantly, make friends and HAVE FUN! Practices last 45 minutes and occur twice per week. Practice options are offered to meet your family's schedule.

Boarfish I (2nd-4th Grade Two practices per week)
Primarily consists of ages 7-10. Stroke progression, starts, turns and stroke technique will be a primary focus. Our coaching staff will lay the groundwork for teamwork, basic practice etiquette, and sportsmanship. Building confidence and creating friendships are two of our biggest goals for this group. Coaches will make sure this practice group has FUN! Practices last 50 minutes and occur twice per week. Practice options are offered to meet your family's schedule.

Boarfish II (4th-6th Grade Two or three practices per week)
Predominantly made up of ages 9 - 11. This group builds upon the swimming skills learned in Boarfish I. Swimmers should be competent in all four strokes. Training will incorporate more advanced drills and intervals to increase overall proficiency. Further emphasis will be placed on stroke technique. Aerobic development and conditioning will be introduced at a basic level. Swimmers will be encouraged to attend practice consistently, and expectations will be increased at a developmentally appropriate rate for both attendance as well as intensity. Coaches will teach and expect participants to be safe and responsible swimmers in addition to making practice FUN! Practices last 60 minutes and occur two or three times per week. Practice options are offered to meet your family's schedule.

Junior (Middle School Up to 4 practices per week)
Primarily made up of ages 11 - 14 with an emphasis on stroke technique, aerobic endurance, racing strategies, and dryland training. Junior swimmers should be proficient in all four strokes. Multi-sport athletes are openly welcomed, as practice schedules are flexible. Our coaches make it a priority to encourage a lifelong love for the sport. Swimmers are encouraged to attend their practices consistently and to show support for their teammates. This group will also be expected to show a respectful and positive attitude at practice. We believe that this age group specifically needs positive role models as they transition to high school. Each practice lasts 90 minutes.

Pre-Senior (8th grade - 10th grade up to 5 swim practices and 1 dryland practice per week)
This group trains with a focus on stroke technique, aerobic endurance, and increasingly more complex practice sets to build upon the skills they already possess. We introduce this group to a more rigorous training program in order to prepare them to compete at a higher level, if they so desire. Swimmers in this group will receive the additional coaching necessary to be competitive in both the USA as well as local high school programs. This encourages team camaraderie and allows coaches to get to know more swimmers on a daily basis. Our coaches want your swimmer(s) to develop lasting friendships and will accommodate practice groups when possible so friends can swim together. Practice lasts 90 minutes to two hours, and swimmers are encouraged to attend an average of four practices per week. Many options are available (both morning and afternoon) in order to provide flexibility for multi-sport athletes. We encourage our swimmers to participate in other activities they enjoy as well.

Senior Flex (up to 4 swim practices and 2 dryland practices per week)
Our Senior Flex group is designed for athletes ages 14-18, interested in developing their competitive swimming careers while maintaining the scheduling flexibility for other activities. This is the ideal group for swimmers who are new to the Senior group as well as multi-sport and/or multi-commited high school athletes. Senior Flex is also a great option for high school swimmers looking to advance their skills while introducing them to the world of USA Swimming. Workouts are designed to challenge athletes to further develop technique, endurance, racing strategy, and mental fortitude with goals of qualifying as many swimmers as possible to state and national level meets. Emphasis is placed on leadership and community service, creating a positive environment for well-rounded young adults. Practices last 2 hours and swimmers are expected to communicate their weekly practice schedule with coaches in order to provide consistent, effective training. Our goal as coaches is to develop your swimmer from a holistic perspective - investing in social, academic, and athletic proficiency.

Senior/National (Coaches Recommendation 6 swim practices and 2-3 dryland practices per week)
Primarily consists of ages 16 and older swimmers (based on coaches recommendation) who have the ability, desire, and commitment to advance their competitive swimming career. Stroke technique remains a cornerstone. Emphasis is placed on leadership and community service, creating a positive environment for well-rounded young adults. Athletes in this group are expected to prioritize swimming as their primary sport, but we also encourage them to continue other sports/activities they enjoy. Workouts are designed to challenge athletes to further develop technique, endurance, racing strategy, and mental fortitude with goals of qualifying as many swimmers as possible to state and national level meets. Our National group includes swimmers who compete at Sectionals, Junior Nationals, Futures, the U.S. Open, and Olympic Trials. Swimming in college is another main objective and assistance with the recruiting process is offered as well as obtaining USA Scholastic All American recognition. All 11th and 12th grade athletes with the desire to swim in college will be placed in this group. Practices last two hours and swimmers are expected to consistently commit to five or six practices per week in addition to dryland sessions. Our goal as coaches is to develop your swimmer from a holistic perspective - investing in social, academic, and athletic proficiency.
