Boar’s Head Resort Announces New Sports & Recreation and Groups Enhancements for the Summer Season
Charlottesville, VA (May 22, 2025) – Boar’s Head Resort, the 600-acre sprawling resort destination located in the foothills of Charlottesville, announces new additions and enhancements to its sports & recreation and meetings facilities ahead of the summer season. The historic resort bolsters its programming with new, trending padel courts while introducing upgrades to its picturesque golf course. Property enhancements are rounded out with upgrades to its meetings & events facilities.
The resort’s updates come ahead of the forthcoming debut of the on-site Birdwood Mansion, the storied 19th century estate that is currently being restored and transformed into a new luxury boutique seven-room hotel. Slated to debut in the fall of 2025, Birdwood Mansion will serve as an intimate hotel-within-a-hotel experience and events destination steeped in history.
Padel Debuts at The Sports Club at Boar’s Head Resort
Expanding the property's already robust racquet sports offerings, Boar’s Head Resort will open three new padel courts. The addition introduces one of the world’s fastest-growing racquet sports to The Sports Club, alongside programming for guests and visitors to enjoy.
On May 30, resort guests and Charlottesville residents are invited to attend the grand opening complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and exhibition match. Members and hotel guests can book a court, clinic, or summer camps by visiting the resort’s website. This new facility comes on the heels of a recent announcement of Boar’s Head Resort being ranked as a top 25 tennis and pickleball resort in the world by Tennis Resort Online.
Strategic Course Upgrades at Birdwood Golf Course
The award-winning, championship Birdwood Golf Course is completing a series of strategic improvements, including the construction of five new tee boxes across the facility’s nearly 200 acres of rolling land, done in partnership with Love Golf Design’s Scot Sherman, the principal architect in the field working with PGA Professional Davis Love III and Mark Love. Notable changes include a new back tee box at hole 18, which will stretch the hole to 500+ yards and allow it to be played as a par-5, creating a challenging final hole for championship tournaments on the heels of recently hosting the NCAA Women’s Regional Tournament.
The renovations to the golf course are being conducted while daily play continues, with the new tees available for play by the summer. The enhanced course is poised to draw greater appeal for golf outings and retreats, especially to pair with a bespoke stay at the soon-to-open Birdwood Mansion.
Renovation of The Pavilion
Boar’s Head Resort unveils a total renovation of The Pavilion, the resort’s signature groups and meetings venue. As part of the refurbishments across the entire space, updates were made to modernize the space while maintaining its warm, welcoming ambiance. With nearly 6,000-square-feet of flexible space, The Pavilion stands poised to accommodate meetings, conferences, and retreats of all kinds.
Looking Ahead
The restoration completion and launch of Birdwood Mansion is anticipated in the fall of 2025, with more details to be announced soon. For more preliminary information, please visit www.birdwoodmansion.com.
