A Wine Lovers Retreat

Virginia truly is for wine lovers and Boar's Head Resort is the perfect location to stay while you explore the beauty of the surrounding area. The roots of the American wine industry began in Virginia and have evolved into some of the most splendid wines in the country. The rich terrain and soil of the local vineyards continue to produce a wide variety of complex vintages. Check out our suggested itinerary for up to four days of your wine getaway:

Day 1

9:00 a.m.

Start your day with a tasty breakfast at Birdwood Grill, overlooking the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. After breakfast, sharpen your putting skills on our new green behind the clubhouse, or walk over to the driving range to try out your swing.

12:00 p.m.

Wind down at one of our beautiful local wineries. You can schedule a wine tour or take a drive to a nearby vineyard. Call for hours and reservations.

5:00 p.m.

Spend your evening at the elegant Mill Room restaurant here at Boar's Head Resort and savor the delicious fare that our chefs are cooking up. We offer indoor or outdoor dining. Afterwards, relax by the fire pit on the back patio and take in the view of the lake.

Day 2

9:00 a.m.

Meet Wiley, our beloved bird, as he soars over trees and returns for a dramatic landing with our Boar's Head Outfitters team member. Wiley loves posing for pictures, so bring your camera. Reservations are required.

12:00 p.m.

Take a stroll along the cobblestone of Charlottesville's historic downtown mall. Browse a wide variety of shops and then slip into a wine bar and pair with some hors d'oeuvres.

3:00 p.m.

Top off the day with a show at the Violet Crown. Seasonal hours. Call for reservations.

6:00 p.m.

Relax at the resort on the outdoor terrace and nibble on some food and wine.

Day 3

9:00 a.m.

Take a hike on our scenic Heritage Trails that wind through our expansive acreage. Stay close to the resort or expand your hike as you stroll past ponds, lakes, an old cemetery and low-lying wetlands.

12:00 p.m.

A visit to Carter Mountain is a must-do for an incredible view of the city of Charlottesville. During their winery hours, you can sample some vintages with your view. Seasonal activities also include hayrides, a pumpkin patch, and apple picking. Call for reservations.

5:00 p.m.

Come back to the resort to relax and take advantage of our in-room dining on your balcony (request a balcony at time of booking).

Day 4

8:00 a.m.

Fuel up with an express breakfast at Racquets Restaurant at The Sports Club.

9:00 a.m.

Make it a historic day with a tour of Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, and explore the beautiful grounds, gardens and vineyards.

12:00 p.m.

As you leave Monticello, don't forget to visit Jefferson Vineyards, where Thomas Jefferson grew grapes almost 250 years ago.

5:00 p.m.

Enjoy a relaxing dinner back at the resort at one of our on-site restaurants.
