*Fall 2025 Information Coming Soon
Boar’s Head Sports Club is excited to offer BASS's 11-week USA Swimming Summer Training program with a focus on long course competition and preparing collegiate level swimmers for their Fall season. This program is an ideal fit for the established competitive swimmer wishing to improve their stroke technique, endurance and overall conditioning. This program is offered to all Senior level swimmers as well as PreSenior swimmers ages 14 and up with coach recommendation. PreSeniors will have the option of attending 5 practices a week or 2 (our introduction to summer training).
Mission
To inspire and empower swimmers to achieve excellence in sport and life through age-specific and appropriate training for all athletes. Through coaching geared towards challenging and developing each athlete to the best of their abilities, our competitive program - overseen by Boar’s Head Lead USA Coaches Lauren Gander, Erin Lawson, Lindsey Paulson, and Mike DiFazio - exemplifies the standards and values of the sport of swimming.
**Please note - Participants in all groups, including Mini Boarfish must be able to swim a complete 25-yard freestyle unassisted. Children should be comfortable floating and kicking on their back as well as their front. This program is not intended to replace swim lessons. If you are new to USA Swimming or unsure of your swimmer's current skill level, please reach out to one of our coaches. We want to find the best fit for your child(ren) and will happily arrange an individual evaluation.

BASS Registration Fee, USA Swimming Fees & Meet Information
The BASS registration fee is a one time fee of $125 for the entire 2024-2025 short course and long course season. This fee includes a BASS team t-shirt and 2 silicone caps printed with the swimmers last name. The yearly USA swimming fee will be charged in October for returning BASS swimmers. All new swimmers will need to set up an account with USA swimming and pay the required USA swimming fee. We will send out information on how to do this for new swimmers at the beginning of the season.
All programs certified via USA Swimming. The USA season runs from Sept. 2024 - Aug. 2025. Our competitive meet schedule will be announced shortly. District and State Championship meet (Age Group Champs, Senior Champs, etc.) dates and locations as well as some National level meets can be found at www.virginiaswimming.org.
Pre-Senior (8th Grade and Above)
Swimmers must be at least 13 years of age. This group trains with a focus on stroke technique, aerobic endurance, and increasingly more complex practice sets to build upon the skills they already possess. We introduce this group to a more rigorous training program in order to prepare them to compete at a higher level, if they so desire. Swimmers in this group will receive the additional coaching necessary to be competitive in both the USA as well as local high school programs. Coaches will occasionally combine this group with the Senior/National group for practice. This encourages team camaraderie and allows coaches to get to know more swimmers on a daily basis. Our coaches want your swimmer(s) to develop lasting friendships and will accommodate practice groups when possible so friends can swim together. Practice lasts 90 minutes to two hours, and swimmers are encouraged to attend an average of four practices per week. Many options are available in order to provide flexibility for multi-sporty athletes. We encourage our swimmers to participate in other activities they enjoy as well.
Senior/National (High School/Coaches Recommendation)
Primarily consists of ages 16 and older swimmers (based on coaches recommendation) who have the ability, desire, and commitment to advance their competitive swimming career. Stroke technique remains a cornerstone. Emphasis is placed on leadership and community service, creating a positive environment for well-rounded young adults. Workouts are designed to challenge athletes to further develop technique, endurance, racing strategy, and mental fortitude with goals of qualifying as many swimmers as possible to state and national level meets. Our National group includes swimmers who compete at Futures, the U.S. Open, and Olympic Trials. Swimming in college is another main objective and assistance with the recruiting process is offered as well as obtaining USA Scholastic All American recognition. Practices last two hours and swimmers are expected to consistently commit to five or six practices per week plus two to three dryland practices. Our goal as coaches is to develop your swimmer from a holistic perspective - investing in social, academic, and athletic proficiency.
