If you're looking to improve your golf game, the Boar's Head Golf Academy is your one-stop shop for juniors and adults. Not only will this season bring an array of instructional opportunities, but we'll also offer a host of social events, leagues and camps to fit any skill or age level. 

For those looking for an equipment upgrade, you'll be happy to hear that our team has lined up fitting days with Callaway, Mizuno and Titleist and these will accompany our own Birdwood Golf demo days. 

For the more competitive spirit, Birdwood Golf has an entire series of tournaments for members and public golfers. View the tournament schedule.

GolfOut Programs

GolfOut is an exclusive member-only opportunity geared to help golfers make lasting improvements and transfer skills to the golf course. This is an ongoing program running through August.

Thursday, Sept. 21: Open to all members and the public from noon - 5 p.m., this event will give participants the chance to test Titleist's new irons.

Juniors Op 36 (Spring)

Start Date: March 14

Op36 is our flagship player development program, and we are proud to offer 8-week semesters for juniors of all skill levels (age groups of 7-10 and 11-16). Unlike traditional player development programs, Operation 36 is centered around learning through playing on the course allowing golfers to progress through the program by learning to score 36 (or better) for 9 holes. Use the Op36 website to create an account, view the full details and register. After creating your account, remember to enroll in the class of your choice.

Women's Kickoff Clinic

Rescheduled: Saturday, April 15

The women of Boar's Head Resort are invited to join our Boar’s Head Golf Academy staff at the practice tees for a season kickoff clinic. This clinic will include instruction from our golf academy professionals in a clinic-style format while discussing ways to practice to improve your play. We will unveil the entire annual schedule that includes exciting new instructional and play offerings for women at Birdwood.

Our elite coaches at the Boar’s Head Golf Academy are launching GolfOut – an exclusive member-only opportunity geared to help golfers make lasting improvements and transfer skills to the golf course. GolfOut features specialized clinics each month that cycle golfers through a series of environments and tasks to improve a specific aspect of on-course performance.

Putting With Lauren Coughlin

Tuesday, May 2

With her golf beginnings starting at age 7, Lauren Coughlin progressed through Hickory High School in nearby Chesapeake, VA, and was named second-team All-American by the WGCA during her senior year while playing for University of Virginia.

Boar’s Head is happy to be an official sponsor of Lauren as she now makes her way around the LPGA Tour, and she’ll be bringing her talents to Birdwood for this exclusive putting clinic.

Wedges & Wine

Saturday, May 20

Join your fellow members for a one-of-a-kind golf clinic and outing on The Nest par-3 course. The event will start with a clinic providing guidance on a handful of wedge principles including controlling distance and proper setup for the shot and swing motion. Immediately after the clinic, golfers will test their newfound skills with a friendly competition on The Nest par-3 course. Each participant will receive two complimentary glasses of wine and will have a chance to win prizes.

PGA Junior League

May 24 - June 15 (Register by May 3)

PGA Jr. League believes that every child can be a golfer. From those brand new to the game to more competitive players, all skill levels are invited to learn and play in this welcoming environment. Teamwork is the heart and soul of PGA Jr. League. Kids play on teams in a scramble format and wear numbered jerseys, supporting and learning from one another to develop skills that translate on and off the course.

Summer Camps

June 13, July 25 & Aug. 8

Our Birdwood Golf professional staff hosts a series of summer camps for young golfers learning to improve their skills. The start dates for this three-camp series will on June 13, July 25 and Aug. 8. Let your kids have fun while learning a lifelong sport.

Drive, Chip & Putt

Thursday, July 6

Drive, Chip and Putt is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, this unique event provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. 

Birdwood Golf is an annual host of our local qualifying event.

This fun social scramble offers the opportunity for women to play with the pros! Enjoy a nine-hole scramble that includes two glasses of wine, a cart and the opportunity to win fun prizes. All members are invited and may bring a non-member guest.
